Indian was built for the Leyland Line by Harland and Wolff at their Belfast yard, one of a class of four vessels.
Indian was launched on November 25th, 1895, as a catlle and cargo carrier, but had been renamed Armenian upon delivery.
Armenian was transferred to White Star Line management on March 20th, 1903, but remained under Leyland Line ownership. Armenian also served on the White Star Line cargo service between Liverpool and New York, and stopped carrying passengers too.
On 1910, Armenian reverted to her Leyland Line livery with a pink funnel.
Armenian made her last sailing on March 3rd, 1914, and was then laid-up. In August, she was briefly used to transport horses to France.
On June 28th, 1915, Armenian was torpedoed by U-24 off Trevose Head in Cornwall. The crew were given time to abandon ship.
The wreck of Armenian was discovered in 2002, about 20 miles from the position reported when she sank.
