Belgic II was built at the Belfast shipyard of Harland and Wolff for the White Star Line, in 1885. Belgic II, together with her sister ship, Gaelic II, were constructed to operate on the Occidental & Oriental Pacific services. Belgic II's maiden voyage was between Liverpool and New York, and then after that, Belgic II made her first sailing on the San Francisco, Yokohama to Hong Kong route, on the 28th November, 1885.
In 1898, Belgic II made her final Pacific voyage, and returned to the U.K.
In 1899, Belgic II was sold to the Atlantic Transport Line, and underwent a change of name, to Mohawk, and she made her first sailing between London and New York on the 7th September. In the December, Mohawk was taken over Boer War transporting.
In 1902, Mohawk was released, but it was decided not to refurbish her, and the following year, Mohawk was broken up at Garston, in Liverpool.
