Luxor Las Vegas Exhibition

Postby rmsqueenmary » Thu Oct 22, 2009 8:37 pm

I was fortunate enough to visit the Titanic Exhibition that is currently at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas.

It was very nice and included the Big Piece as well as the full replica of the Grand Staircase. They also had the base of the Cherub on display in the room with the staircase.

One of the nice features of this exhibit was the replica of Titanic's promenade deck and starry night.

I was disappointed that they didn't have the replica boiler display that they use to have when it was over at the Tropicana a few years ago.

All in all one of the better presentations all the visitor were very respect full.

I respected their no photo policy although I was really wanting some photos of the big piece

I have seen the following exhibits:

Maryland science center Baltimore

Franklin Institute Philadelphia

Tropicana Atlantic City

Tropicana Las Vegas

Luxor Las Vegas

Rio Las Vegas

The Rio was very good as they had period costume to wear when they photographed you.

That is a great photo, I wish I had seen the exhibits when I lived there. I only knew of it at the Tropicana, but never saw it there. The Science Museum in Phoenix does a great job, very large takes over an hour to see.

The RIO is the only place I ever saw the costumes.

I'm pretty sure it was the photographer who rented the costumes themselves.

They had a whole rack of them. It is pretty cool just getting your photo taken on the staircase but the Costumes add something to the experience.

Hope one comes near you so you get to see it.

Best Regards,

Tony

Saw it a couple of months ago. It's not a huge exhibition, but it's VERY well done. Sort of a dark and spooky atmosphere, like being on the ship, not just rooms full of artifacts. One room is a reproduction of the deck, looking out over the blackness with a starry sky. A massive "iceberg" - it's REAL ice! - looms up next to it. It's very cold and you can reach out and touch the ice. If you take your time, read the informational cards, etc. it's very moving.
