Elizabeth Hocking had two sons, Richard George Hocking and Sidney Hocking, who had previously emigrated to Akron, Ohio, and now she was to join them with various members of her family. Richard George Hocking returned to England to assist his mother and members of the family to make the move. This large group was made up of Elizabeth Hocking, her son, Richard George Hocking, her sister, Ellen Wilkes, her daughters, Ellen Hocking and Emily Richards, and her two grandsons, William Rowe Richards, and Sibley George Richards.

All seven members of the Hocking/Richards party boarded Titanic at Southampton, on Wednesday, 10th April, 1912, and most of them were bound for Akron, Ohio, the sole exception being Ellen Hocking, who was traveling to Schenectady, New York in order to get married.

All of the Hocking/Richards party managed to board lifeboat 4 and survive the sinking, with the sole exception of Richard George Hocking. His body was not recovered.
